CRF Honda Racing is excited to announce the arrival of leading Australian lubricant brand Penrite as naming rights sponsor
of the team’s 2017 MX Nationals and Australian Supercross Championship campaign.
And for the first time in the factory-backed Honda team’s history, Penrite CRF Honda Racing will contest both elite MX1 and
MX2 (motocross) and SX1 and SX2 (supercross) categories as team riders Joel Wightman and Kyle Webster return for the 2017 season after impressive 2016 performances with the Honda squad.
NSW Hunter Valley based Wightman will move up to a Honda CRF450R this year, racing the MX1 category of the MX Nationals and SX1 in supercross.
Meanwhile West Aussie ace Webster will once again climb aboard a potent CRF250R to spearhead Penrite CRF Honda
Racing’s MX2 and SX2 attack. Both riders are itching to get their respective 2017 MX Nationals title chases under way, when the prestigious outdoor series roars into life at Victoria’s Wonthaggi circuit on Sunday, April 2.
“CRF Honda Racing is excited to be aligned with Penrite for the 2017 season,” enthuses team owner/manager Mark Luksich.
“Penrite’s quality lubricants range and extensive sponsorship of Australian motorsport makes the brand an icon within the
industry and as a team we are so proud to have this opportunity to be part of the Penrite family.
With Penrite’s support we look forward to continuing our team’s growth as we move into our third season, in which we will
support Joel as he moves into the MX1/SX1 division and continue to support Kyle as he strives to realise his promise to
become one of the country’s very best MX2/SX2 competitors.”
As a major sponsor of Australian motorsport across various disciplines, Penrite is delighted to once again be involved with a national Honda motocross and supercross outfit.
“Penrite is excited to be aligned with the CRF Honda Racing team in Australian motocross and supercross racing,” enthuses Toby Dymond, General Manager/Sales and Marketing of the Penrite Oil Company.
“Being an Australian company we are extremely proud to support Australian race teams and riders.”
Featuring an extensive range of high-performance lubricants and maintenance and care products, the Penrite range is
available nationally from major auto parts outlets, including Repco, Supercheap and Autobarn.
The new-look Penrite CRF Honda Racing team has hit the ground running for 2017, the team enjoying stellar results in
preliminary NSW events through the opening months of the year.
At the Coffs Harbour Stadium Supercross on January 14, Webster won the Pro Lites class, while Wightman was in the USA
to take a close-up look at the prestigious AMA Supercross Series.
Then on February 4/5 at the opening round of the NSW East Coast MX Series, Wightman snared the overall win in the Pro
Open class, while Webster claimed second overall in Pro Lites.
Then on February 25/26 at the opening round of the NSW Motocross Championships, Penrite CRF Honda Racing swept both
premier classes, with Wightman topping Pro Open and Webster victorious in Pro Lites.
Last weekend Webster jetted out to Indonesia to take up a guest ride in round two of the MX2 division of the MX GP world
championship, but like so many competitors was thwarted by the horror wet conditions that swamped the event.
Wightman and Webster will line up at this weekend’s second round of the NSW East Coast MX Series in the ACT as a final
hit-out before the MX Nationals kick-off at Wonthaggi next month.
“Overall the new-look Penrite CRF Honda Racing team is coming together really well,” Luksich explains. “Along with Penrite,
new team sponsors for 2017 include SK Designs, UNIT, ToolPro, Neken and Ryco Filters, who are teaming up with our many
returning partners, whose support is invaluable when you are racing at a national level.
“Joel is fast settling in on the new Honda 450 and looks really comfortable, while Kyle is training very hard and is set to
approach 2017 with a new outlook.
“I’m thrilled with the growth of the team’s profile and the fabulous commitments offered by all our sponsors. I’m rapt that we
made the decision to continue to support the same two riders and build on the investment we have all made in the riders and
“I’m sure the start to the 2017 season will be frantic,” Luksich continues, “and there will be plenty of guys at the pointy end of
the field, but we will approach the season on the basis of accumulating results towards an end goal by the final rounds.”
