Cody Burcher-2018 Victorian Formula Ford Series Rd 2 Philip Island Race Report

Friday

On Friday we had 5 practise sessions and throughout the day made up lots of time in my driving and some other smaller adjustments after struggling some mid corner oversteer.

Saturday

Qualifying-Got to put on some new tyres and  I had to take a few too laps to scrub them in before having a proper go at a lap. I only managed to get 3 flying laps and wasn’t able to get a draft on any of the laps which didn’t help but still managing 6th position.

Race 1-Race one got off to a great starting getting up to 4th by turn 1 but falling back to 5th through the draft on lap 1. In the final part of the second lap at turn 11 while short shifting gears from 2nd to 3rd my hand bumped the ignition switch while brining my hand back up to the steering wheel and turning the car off, falling back to 11th and made my way up to 7th place, on the tail of 5th and 6th place over the line. Disappointing to of had this small little error costing me allot of time.

Sunday

Race 2-Another good start gaining 1 position off the line but got forced wide on lap 2 falling back to 9th, making my way back to 7th but not having great speed. Mainly because of myself not driving quite right and making too many small errors costing allot of time. Some setup imperfections also hindered us a little so we made some adjustments for race 3.

Race 3-Had a good start but got forced wide on lap 2 going back to 9th. The car became much more  comfortable to drive and was much faster, making my way up to 5th and battling for 4th position for the last 5 laps of the race but only managed 5th place and also claimed 5th for the round.

I am very happy with how the whole weekend panned out especially the 5th place for the round. As usual lots of things to still work on. Over all I am a bit more calm, comfortable and confident with the car.
