Hi,

I like the best oil, full synthetic? for my wife's Camry. 2.5 litre. 2014. Australian made. The car only has 31000 km on the clock. I was advised to use your HPR5 oil 5-40. Is this correct? or do you suggest another grade?

Thank You.

Jan Ooms.

Hi Jan,

We are listing the HPR 0 0W-30 (FULL SYNTHETIC) (https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/hpr-0-0w-30-full-synthetic#/)  as the preferred engine oil for the 2014 Toyota Camry. Based on the amount of KM’s travelled by this vehicle I would say that this would be an ideal choice.

Has the car been burning any oil during the 31,000KM’s?

Hi Vinnie,

thank you for your answer. You asked if the car has been burning oil. I really can't tell as the vehicle has been over-serviced. As from today it has just over 32000 km on the clock. The 75000 km or 45 months service has been completed. The car had 28491 km on the clock. Over serviced ? and money grabbing if you ask me.  What's the diference between the HPRO 0W-30 and the Enviro+ 5W-30?

What are your recommendations for the oil change schedule and at what speedo readings?

Thank you,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

Have you had the car since new? And is this the service schedule recommended by Toyota themselves? Because we often say refer to the manufacturers recommendations for the correct service schedule.

The major difference between the HPR 0 0W-30 (FULL SYN) and the ENVIRO+ 5W-30 (FULL SYN) in this scenario would be the fact that the ENVIRO+ 5W-30 (FULL SYN) doesn’t meet the required API SM/SN specification (https://penriteoil.com.au/knowledge-centre/Specifications/194/What-are-ILSAC,-API-&-ACEA-engine-oil-specifications/216)  mentioned by the manufacturer, hence why we do not show it on our product selector against this vehicle listing.

Toyota specify the use of an oil in between the 0W-20 – 10W-30 viscosity range, which would mean you have multiple options in our range. Some of the options you may consider include the ENVIRO GF-5 5W-30 (FULL SYN) (https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/enviro-gf-5-5w-30-full-syn) , SEMI SYNTHETIC 10W-30 (https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/semi-synthetic-10w-30) or the HPR 5 5W-40 (FULL SYN) (https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/hpr-5-5w-40-full-synthetic).

We are listing our HPR 0 0W-30 (FULL SYN) as our preferred option as it will have a better fuel economy to that of a thicker oil.

Hi Vinnie,

Back again. The Toyota book lists the "Maintenance Service Times"  as months and Odometer readings for serviving this vehicle.

months/km x 1000. 9/15, 18/30, 27/45, 36/60 ,45/75, 54/90 etc etc right up to 240,000 km. My last service

was done 9-1-19 @ 28491 km. The car was puchased as a Toyoto Reps vehicle at 9763 km, age since new 10 mionths

What is your preferred oil change schedule with HPR0 0W-30( Full Syn) for this Camry that does about 6000 km a year.

The car will no longer be serviced any more by Toyota. Their charges are over the top now and just a means of generating income seeing that car sales are nose diving Australia wide.

Yours oils come highly reecommended and your an Australian Company. Wow, wonderfull.

Vinnie, Thanks for your help and recommendations. Make sure you run every so often specials on this oil.

Best Regards,

Jan.

Hi Jan,

So based on that information Toyota are recommending a service every 9 months or 15,000Km, I’m assuming whichever comes first.

I would suggest sticking to what Toyota recommend , this includes the above drainage intervals for our HPR 0 0W-30 (FULL SYN). I would not wait for the 15,000kms, based on your projected kms in a year. Remember, you could also use HPR 5. You may benefit with fuel economy with HPR 0, if that is an objective but either will do.
