Hi,

I have a 2016 LS3 VF2 redline that is used for mainly street driving and a few track days per year. (Club track days, 15 min sessions at wakefield park etc)

The car has a cam upgrade and exhaust with about 335rwkw. The product selector does not recommend 10 tenths racing 5/10/15, is this oil suitable if the car is not under warranty etc.

Secondly factory recommended is 5w30 but I read of people using 10w40 and 15w50 for track work in LS3 vehicles. Can you advise which would be best for my use?

Hi Eamon,

What oil have you been using in the past?

The information provided to us shows the manufacturer requesting the use of a GM Dexos 1 Gen 2 or GM Dexos 2 specification oil in a 5W-30 viscosity. With this we are recommending the use of our either our Enviro+ GF-5 as it is an approved oil with the GM Dexos 1 Gen2 specification https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/enviro-gf-5-5w-30-full-syn, or our Enviro+ 5W-40 as it is an approved GM Dexos 2 specification oil https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/enviro-5w-40-full-syn.

Given the work that has been done to the car it is difficult to say whether the manufacturers specifications are still required, it may be worth contacting where the work was completed and seeing what oil they are using in these engines after completing the work.

Our 10 Tenths Racing oils are not shown as recommended for the car as they do not meet the required specifications.

Kind Regards,

Tate

Hi,

Yes the person that did the work suggested using a 5w40 or 10w40 as a used oil analysis showed that a Dexos approved Valvoline oil has thinned/ sheared too much. They recommended Nulon racing 5w40 (Also not dexos approved.) so I was seeing if the 10 tenths range would be comparable as well.
