G'day,

I was just about to pop down to my local Repco and pick up a GL5 (75w90, I believe) for my diffs, and thought while I was there, I'd get some oil for the gearbox & transfer case for my 2010 VDJ79 LandCruiser.

My Haynes manual specifies I can use a GL5 OR a GL4 of the same viscosity, However, your database only specifies GL5 for the diffs and GL4 for the gearbox. Was just wanting some clarification, I'm hoping the gl5 is cross-compatible for both the diff and gearbox so I only have to buy one type of oil for both applications, However, I know these applications can be very particular with oil grades and viscosities so I'd rather get it right the first time.

Cheers.

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The information provided to us shows the manufacturer calling for the use of an API GL-4 or API GL-5 specification fluid in a 75W-90 viscosity. With this as it is being used in a transmission we recommend the use of our Pro Gear GL-4 75W-90 https://penriteoil.com.au/products/pro-gear-gl-4-75w-90-full-syn

Further information on the differences between an API GL-4 & API GL-5 can be found by the attached link https://penriteoil.com.au/knowledge-centre/Gear-Oil-Industry-Specifications/83/What-is-the-difference-between-API-GL-4-and-API-GL-5-Gear-Oils/1036

Kind regards,

Tate
