I've done a diff oil change on an auto gu Patrol Y61 2012. I've used Pro Gear full synthetic GL-5 75w85 on both front and rear diffs and only just realised that I may have used the wrong oils.

Is it okay to use this or should I change it? Also if I need to change it do I need to flush the diffs aPenrite Oil Forumnd if so, how?

Thanks

Hi Burhaan

Does you're Patrol have the 4.8L petrol TB48DE engine, or the 3.0TD ZD30DDTi engine?

Cheers

Hi Burhaan

Nissan only allow for a 80W90 oil in both the front and the rear diffs of the Patrol (Y61) GU-IV 4x4, ZD30 DOHC Turbo Diesel, Auto (2007-2016), so a 75W85 is not acceptable to them. A  80w90 grade oil is thicker than a 75W85 grade oil, for instance, our PRO GEAR GL-5 75W-85 (Full Syn) has a typical viscosity of 74cSt at 40°C, as compared to our GEAR OIL 80W-90 (Mineral) which at the same temperature, has a typical value of 152cSt .

Given this the use of ProGear GL5 does not seem like a good match for this model especially eg, under heavier loads that may be encountered during off roading or towing.

Cheers
