Seasons greetings

My question is about the Red OEM Concentrate coolant, its silicate content and application to japanese motors. I have a 2005 Nissan 350Z which the product selector recommended a year ago to use this coolant. Where as now it says to use the Blue one. Am I ok to keep the Red coolant in there? And is there an issue with the silicate content and the pump seal or any thing else?

Also I have a 2011 Kawasaki ZX10R which the product selector recommends Green or Red, which it looks like it recommends for all reasonably late model Kawasaki's. Is the Red coolant ok in this motor? It came with green from new.

The reason I ask this is with my limited understanding of coolants is that in general japanese motors need silicate free coolant as it's hard on the pump seal. Although it does say in the Red Info Sheet, Compatible with all plastics rubbers and seals.

I hope this is'nt too long winded.

Thank you for your help.

Regards

John

Hi John,

Not long winded at all.

Yes, Japanese do seem to favour silicate free coolants and since we have the BLUE coolant in the range, we have been deferring to it where suited, hence the change to the Nissan. To be honest, we haven't had an issue with our RED in these "Asian" models, where it has been used but as mentioned, we have been gravitating to the BLUE where applicable. For the Kawasaki, what does it say in your owner's manual?

Hi
Thanks for your reply.

All good with the Nissan, I'll leave the Red in there.

Below is a copy and paste from the Kawasaki manual on recommended coolant.

"Permanent type of antifreeze (soft water and ethylene glycol plus corrosion and rust inhibitor chemicals for aluminum engines and radiators)"

So doesn't really say which type apart from an ethylene glycol coolant.
The bike came with a green coloured coolant from new.
I'm guessing as long as it's an ethylene glycol coolant it's OK?
