Hello, I have being trying to find out what lubricant to use in a WW2 capstan winch fitted to a jeep.  The winch includes brass parts.  Some advice provided is to use Corn Head grease, which I could get from John Deere, however I'm not sure about the effect on yellow metal.  The product is a poly urea based NLGI 0EP grease.  Does Penrite have a product that matches this and can be used with yellow metal?  I was thinking of your steering box lube??

Hi Richard,

I'm not in a position to discuss John Deere products and so can't comment on this products suitability or otherwise.

In any case, we don't have a PolyUrea grease so can't offer an equivalent.

The Steering Box Lube is a lithium, NLGI 00, EP grease suitable for use with yellow metals to temperatures of 130°C.

If this type of soft grease is required then it is likely that Steering Box Lube being an EP grease will be suitable, however as a general comment, I would expect that it would require more frequent reapplication intervals than a well formulated polyurea grease.

Please also note to not mix different grease types as the results can be unpredictable.

Cheers

Costa
